Julie draws on over two decades of transactional lawyering experience to help clients achieve their goals. She represents individuals, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and established companies in strategic and commercial transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, equity and debt financing, partnerships and joint ventures, commercial contracts, entity formation and structuring, securities laws, and general corporate advice.
Her clients span a wide range of industries, including entertainment, energy, technology, financial services, retail, manufacturing, aviation, shipping, celebrity endorsement, real estate, hospitality, and consulting services. She has a proven track-record structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex business transactions, and has successfully helped close over $1 billion in deals over the course of her career.
Prior to joining Acceleron, Julie was a partner at Russ August & Kabat, a Los Angeles-based law firm, where she helped develop the firm’s corporate practice. She also practiced at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and at Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells in Washington, D.C. in cross-border finance and international mergers and acquisitions.
Her extensive legal expertise in both large and small law firms, combined with her international business and teaching background, allows her to bring a unique problem-solving perspective to her clients’ needs, and to be an effective advocate for her clients, whether she is representing the purchaser in a multi-million dollar software acquisition, a consultant seeking to negotiate a contract, or entrepreneurs looking for their first round of financing.
Julie is passionate about supporting female entrepreneurs and promoting women-owned businesses. She is a member of the Women’s’ Bar Associate of Washington D.C., and HeraHub, a female-focused coworking space & business accelerator, and participates regularly in women’s leadership forums and female founder events.
Julie also enjoys educating and mentoring young lawyers. She is currently Head of Experiential Learning at AltaClaro, an online legal-skills training platform, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. She also formerly served as an associate professor of lawyering skills at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. Julie is frequently asked to present at conferences and state-bar-sponsored events and is the author of the textbook: Transactional Lawyering: An Experiential Approach to Communication & Problem Solving (Carolina Academic Press).
Julie received her J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was senior staff editor of Law and Policy in International Business and associate director of Georgetown Barristers’ Council. She holds a B.A. in Communications from Colorado State University, where she graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian.
Before becoming a lawyer, Julie spent several years working overseas, including two years in Bogotá, Colombia as communications director for an agency promoting foreign direct investment, and four years in education in Montreux, Switzerland. Julie was raised in Sussex, England, and speaks fluent French and Spanish. She lives in the Washington D.C. area with her husband and two children.
